Pink Light and Pink Ribbon Events

Every year, the light posts in downtown Cody and Powell are aglow with strands of pink lights, when downtown business owners and community members donate $25.00 to sponsor a post containing their business name or the name of someone whose memory they would like to honor. The “Pink Light Project” is the annual fundraiser for the Women’s Wellness Program at the Wyoming Migrant Health Program in Powell. This year, businesses donated$3,200 to the Pink Light Project, including a purchase by the Bank of the West for 40 light posts!

In addition, Powell’s Expressions Beauty Salon held a “giveaway” to help raise funds. Tickets were sold for some wonderful prizes that were given away with the grand prize valued at over $200. A local grocery store, Blair’s Market, also held a “Pink Day Event” on October 31st. Instead of dressing up for Halloween, all employees dressed in pink, and the store was decorated with pink balloons and pink flowers. Each department marked an item with a pink tag, and a portion of the money earned when the item sold came to the Women’s Wellness Program. Both of these events brought in over $200 to the Women’s Wellness Program.

Hoops for Hope - Click here to view pictures from this event

In early 2009, the Powell and Worland communities developed the idea of a fund-raising event called Hoops for Hope, in which fundraising would take place at the high school basketball games. The community members and the students in both Powell and Worland took charge of the events, and the proceeds from both Hoops for Hope basketball events were approximately $28,000.

The high school and middle school students were leaders in the fundraising efforts, and youth raised more than half of the money donated through various events held in their schools prior to the Hoops for Hope basketball games. The monies donated to the WWP at WMHP from Hoops for Hope will be put into the Women‘s Wellness Fund for direct women‘s health procedures.
