Why a program for migrant and seasonal farm workers?
Although figures for migrants have been declining the last several years throughout the four-county region, in 2002 it was estimated that as many as 2,000 migrants and their families were working in the area. Most migrants are Latinos who:

face language and cultural barriers to using health services
have no health insurance
are not eligible for Medicaid
sometimes delay getting care until an injury or illness is so severe that a visit to the hospital emergency room is required

Who is eligible?
Migrant and seasonal farm workers for whom farm work is their principal source of income
Migrant farm workers are those who move from place to place to do farm work
Seasonal farm workers are based locally but do not work a full year in farming
Dependents of migrant and seasonal farm workers
Persons who were formally migrant or seasonal farm workers (within the past two years)

Eligibility is determined by the project staff for each person seeking health care.

Immigration status is NOT a consideration in determining eligibility or providing services.
